Droopy breasts or ptosis is a real concern for many women who experience weight loss, pregnancy, and breast-feeding. This loss of perkiness, fullness, and shape discourages many women from enjoying their figures in the summer months. Good candidates for a breast lift include women with pendulous or droopy breasts.
The most common breast lift operation is the mastopexy which involves repositioning the nipple areolar complex to a location higher on the chest wall. The incisions are made around the nipple areola complex with or without a vertical incision below that. The procedure is usually performed with general anesthesia and it is done as an outpatient procedure. The surgery usually takes approximately two to three hours from start to finish.
A mastopexy can be done in conjunction with an augmentation if the patient desires more fullness of the upper breast. An augmentation alone offers a mild lift of the breast itself and women with very mild ptosis may be candidates for this.
