SculpSure® Non-Surgical Body Contouring

What is SculpSure®?

SculpSure® is non-surgical liposuction, the latest non-invasive laser body contouring technology and one of the most effective methods for long-lasting fat reduction. FDA-cleared, SculpSure® laser treatment can safely and effectively eliminate stubborn fat in the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, back, and under the chin without the need for surgery or extended downtime.

How is SculpSure® performed?

An outpatient treatment requiring no anesthesia (local or topical), SculpSure® uses up to four adjustable laser applicators and places them side-by-side over the area where fat removal is desired. SculpSure® applicators provide a virtually painless thermal treatment by emitting low-level laser energy (1060 nm) to heat up the subcutaneous tissue and fat to a critical 45- to 47-degree Celsius temperature. This special heating process consists of a proprietary algorithm that turns the laser energy on and off, varying the pulse duration while eliminating painful temperature spikes. Patients may experience a tingling sensation and/or a deep warmth throughout the procedure, which most individuals find tolerable.

The process takes approximately 25 minutes, and during the procedure the temperature elevation induces an accelerated natural death of the fat cells without affecting the skin’s surface. The dead fat cells are harmlessly processed over time by the body’s lymphatic system, thereby removing them. The result is a reduction in thickness and circumference of the treated area.

A hands-free treatment, SculpSure® can be used to treat several areas in one visit. In the course of approximately one hour, two to three areas can be treated with typically successful results. In comparison, CoolSculpting®, which uses hypothermic Cryolipolysis™ (fat freezing), uses the same amount of time to treat just one area or zone.

The SculpSure® Process

The “trouble” area is targeted by laser energy, which is designed to heat the fat cells underneath the skin without damaging the surface. The rise in temperature from the SculpSure® treatment damages the nucleus of the fat cells, impeding function and causing fat cell death. The fat cells are then expelled from the body through the lymphatic system over the course of about three months. Fat cells will not regenerate, and the reduction of fat cells should be permanent, with visible results in as little as six weeks and optimal results in approximately 12 weeks.

Common areas treated with SculpSure®:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Hips
  • Outer Thighs
  • Inner Thighs
  • Back
  • Under the Chin

SculpSure® Results

SculpSure® treatment plans are customizable, with one to three recommended treatments scheduled approximately six weeks apart. Optimal results are typically seen at around 12 weeks, with immediate results in as little as six weeks. After one to three treatments, patients can expect to achieve reductions between two to four cm, or approximately one dress or pant size. Also, SculpSure® can achieve up to a 24 percent reduction in stubborn fat.

SculpSure® Recovery

Most people experience no recovery or downtime with SculpSure®. Patients can resume normal daily activity immediately following their treatment. This includes work and exercise.

Who is a good candidate for SculpSure®?

SculpSure® may be an ideal treatment for patients with stubborn fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Good candidates for the non-surgical liposuction procedure must also have realistic expectations of the achievable cosmetic results and fat reduction. Patients who are pregnant, suffer from an unstable medical disease, have a pacemaker, or have unrealistic expectations are not good candidates for SculpSure®.

Understanding Fat Loss Vs. Weight Loss

Your body houses many fat cells and the total number typically remains constant throughout your life. The number of fat cells does not decrease with weight loss; the fat cells only decrease in size, becoming smaller. This is why patients may experience difficulty losing weight in stubborn areas even with diet and exercise. SculpSure® enables fat reduction by destroying the fat cells in the targeted area.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About SculpSure®

Q: Is anesthesia used during SculpSure® treatment?

A: SculpSure® requires no anesthesia—topical, local or general—since the epidermis and fat remain at a comfortable temperature level of 45-47 degrees Celsius (113-117 Fahrenheit) during the 25 minutes of treatment per area.

Q: Is SculpSure® painful?

SculpSure® is typically not painful since the procedure is regulated thermally. Some patients may feel a tingling sensation and/or a deep warmth during treatment, but it’s generally a tolerable discomfort. In addition, there is usually no post-op pain, hypersensitivity, or discomfort as sometimes experienced with CoolSculpting. Thus, patients can resume normal activity immediately.

Q: Is fat reduction from SculpSure® permanent?

A: Yes, SculpSure® fat reduction can be permanent in certain cases, if patients can maintain a healthy and stable weight. Studies have shown that an apoptosis or non-necrotic permanent death of fat cells occurs when fat temperature is sustained for 25 minutes at 42-47 degrees Celsius. The nucleus of the fat cell stops functioning and dies. A 24 percent reduction in stubborn fat can be obtained with SculpSure®.

Q: Is the skin color of a patient affected by SculpSure® treatments?

A: SculpSure® treatments do not affect the melanin in the skin, so patients of any skin type can usually undergo the procedure.

Q: How long does a SculpSure® treatment take?

A: SculpSure® treatments take 25 minutes per area. It is one of the most efficient forms of non-surgical liposuction being that two to three areas can be easily treated in the course of an hour.

Q: Does SculpSure® have side effects?

A: SculpSure® side effects can include mild bruising, swelling, erythema (patchy redness and irritation), and sensitivity. These symptoms typically last only a couple of hours.

Q: How many treatments SculpSure® treatments will I need?

A: The number of necessary SculpSure® treatments is unique to each patient and treatment plan. Most patients experience the best results with a series of treatments. Our experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Moises Salama, will develop a treatment plan that is right for you and best meets your desired goals.

Q: How long is the recovery for SculpSure®?

A: There is usually no recovery time for SculpSure® treatment, meaning there is little to no downtime. Patients can resume normal activity immediately, including work and exercise.

Q: When will I see results from SculpSure®?

A: Patients may see results from SculpSure® in as little as six weeks after treatment, with optimal results at 12 weeks.

Q: How long do SculpSure® results last?

A: Fat reduction can be long-lasting with no need for retreatment, and the fat cells that are destroyed with SculpSure® should never regenerate. Patients do need to maintain their ideal weight following SculpSure® for optimal long-term results. In addition, benefits can be even more comprehensive with moderate weight loss after treatment.
