Nipple Reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure that can help patients who suffer from prominent or large nipples or from stretched nipples due to breastfeeding. The surgery takes about an hour. Dr. Salama uses a small incision in the areola at the base of the nipple and removes the surrounding top skin. This technique simultaneously reduces the nipple length and diameter of the areola while strategically reshaping the areola. The incisions are closed with dissolving sutures and protective dressings are placed over the surgical site. Dr. Salama will go over the surgical steps during your consult.

The procedure brings balance and symmetry to the size and shape of the nipple for a more attractive and pleasing aesthetic. Nipple reshaping can be performed in combination with a breast enhancement procedure such as breast augmentation or breast lift.

Following your Nipple Surgery, you will be required to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks even while sleeping for optimal healing. You will be to go home the same day and can immediately return to light normal activities. Dr. Salama will prescribe pain medication to help you throughout your recovery.

Most patients are able to return to work the next day. After two to three weeks, you can resume exercise gradually. The breasts and nipples will feel sore and bruised for the first couple of days. Bruising usually fades within two weeks. It is normal for patient to also experience some numbness, swelling, or tingling in the treatment area, which can last up to six weeks. It is recommended that you sleep on your back for the 1st week.

Nipple Surgery may result in altered sensation. Dr. Salama takes every measure to minimize sensation loss, but that is a risk to consider. Dr. Salama will discuss all associated risks during your consult.
