Natrelle® Breast Implants Miami | INSPIRA, Gummy & Saline

What are Natrelle® breast implants?

Natrelle® is the breast implant brand of Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company and the maker of BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM®. Natrelle® is one of the longest-standing implant brands in the United States: the FDA approved Natrelle® saline implants in 2000 and Natrelle® silicone gel implants in 2006, and Allergan has been following the long-term safety of its silicone implants in patients since 1999.

Today the Natrelle® collection in the U.S. is made up of smooth, round implants in two families. Silicone gel implants, led by the INSPIRA® collection, come in three gel types, from soft and responsive to the most cohesive (“gummiest”) round gel implant in the U.S. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water during surgery. According to Allergan, Natrelle® offers more smooth breast implant options than any other brand, in five profiles.

That range is what makes Natrelle® valuable at your consultation. With several gels, five profiles and hundreds of sizes, Dr. Salama can match the implant closely to your chest width, your tissue and the look you want, whether that’s a soft, natural slope or a fuller, rounder upper breast.

The Natrelle INSPIRA® collection: three gels, one goal

Every INSPIRA® implant is a smooth, round silicone implant with a high gel fill, designed to give a fuller look, especially in the upper part of the breast. What changes from one INSPIRA® implant to the next is the gel: how firmly it holds together (its cohesivity) and therefore how the implant moves and how much shape it keeps.

Softest

INSPIRA® Responsive

The least cohesive INSPIRA® gel. It is soft and moves with the body, so the breast settles into a natural slope when you stand.

Often chosen for: a soft feel and natural movement, and patients with enough breast tissue to cover the implant well.

Balanced · Dr. Salama’s most-used

INSPIRA® SoftTouch

A middle level of cohesivity. It keeps more shape than Responsive while still feeling soft, which makes it a popular all-around choice.

Often chosen for: patients who want natural softness with a little more upper-breast fullness and shape.

Most shape-retaining

INSPIRA® Cohesive

Allergan’s most cohesive round gel, described as the “gummiest” round gel implant in the U.S. It holds its shape best, and when cut outside the body the gel stays in place.

Often chosen for: thinner patients, a fuller and rounder upper breast, and revisions where shape stability matters.

INSPIRA® Responsive INSPIRA® SoftTouch INSPIRA® Cohesive
Gel Least cohesive Moderately cohesive Most cohesive
Feel Softest Soft Soft, with the most structure
Shape Moves and settles most naturally Natural, with more upper fullness Keeps its round shape best
Style code letter R (for example SRM) S (for example SSF) C (for example SCX)
Surface Smooth, round, high gel fill

The implants Dr. Salama uses most: SSM and SSF

For most of our augmentation patients, Dr. Salama chooses INSPIRA® SoftTouch in one of two profiles. SSM (smooth, SoftTouch, moderate profile) gives a balanced, natural fullness that suits women with a wider chest or those who want a subtle change. SSF (smooth, SoftTouch, full profile) projects more on a narrower base, for a fuller, rounder upper breast. Both use the same soft, moderately cohesive gel, which in his experience gives a natural feel with enough shape to hold the result over time.

There’s no single “best” Natrelle® implant. The right gel depends on how much natural breast tissue you have, how thin your skin is, and whether you want a soft, natural slope or a fuller, rounder upper breast. At your consultation you can hold each gel in your hands, and Dr. Salama will explain which one fits your body and goals.

Are Natrelle® implants "gummy bear" implants?

“Gummy bear implant” is a popular name for silicone implants filled with a cohesive gel, a gel that sticks together and tends to hold its shape the way a gummy candy does. Every Natrelle INSPIRA® implant uses cohesive gel, so all three are gummy implants at different levels: Responsive is the softest, SoftTouch is in the middle, and Cohesive is the gummiest. Allergan describes Natrelle® as the only smooth implant collection with three different gummy gels.

The name is sometimes linked to the teardrop-shaped Natrelle® 410 implant. That implant had a textured surface and is no longer sold in the U.S. Today’s Natrelle® gummy implants are smooth and round.

Myth Fact
Gummy implants feel hard. All INSPIRA® implants are soft. More cohesive gels hold more shape, but softness is best judged by feeling each implant at your consultation.
Gummy implants are only for a large result. Gel type and size are separate choices. A cohesive gel can be used for a subtle, natural result.
Gummy implants can’t rupture. Any implant shell can break. A cohesive gel tends to stay in place if it does, but you still need the recommended ultrasound or MRI screening.

Natrelle® profiles and sizes

A breast implant is chosen by two measurements: its volume in cubic centimeters (cc) and its profile, meaning how far it projects from the chest for a given base width. A higher profile on the same base gives more forward projection and a rounder look on top. Natrelle® silicone implants come in five profiles, the most of any U.S. brand. Moderate (M) and full (F) are the profiles Dr. Salama uses most.

Profile Letter Look Approximate volumes*
Low L Wide base, least projection; subtle fullness 110–610 cc
Low plus LP A little more projection than low 125–640 cc
Moderate M A balanced middle ground 140–755 cc
Full F More projection and upper fullness 180–770 cc
Extra full X Most projection on a narrower base 200–800 cc

*Ranges across the Natrelle® silicone collection, from Allergan’s Natrelle® portfolio guide. Not every gel comes in every profile and size. Natrelle® saline implants come in low, moderate and high profiles.

Cup size isn’t a reliable way to choose an implant, because it varies between bra brands and depends on your own breast tissue. Dr. Salama sizes implants from your chest measurements and uses implant sizers so you can see and feel the result before surgery.

How to read a Natrelle® style code (size chart decoder)

Every Natrelle® implant has a style code printed on your implant ID card, such as SSF-520. The letters tell you the surface, the gel and the profile; the number is the volume in cc. Type a code from your card, or try an example.

Saline implants use a different code (for example 68MP). A code starting with T means an older textured implant, which is no longer sold.

Saline vs. silicone breast implants

Natrelle® makes both, so this is one of the first decisions you and Dr. Salama will make together. Both are FDA-approved, both use a silicone outer shell, and both can give a beautiful result. They differ in what’s inside and how that changes the look, feel and follow-up.

Natrelle® silicone (INSPIRA®) Natrelle® saline
Filled with Cohesive silicone gel, prefilled by the manufacturer Sterile salt water, filled by the surgeon during surgery
Feel Closer to natural breast tissue Firmer; more likely to show rippling in thin patients
Minimum age (augmentation) 22 18
Incision Slightly longer, to place a prefilled implant Can be shorter, because the implant is filled once in place
Size adjustment Fixed volume Volume can be fine-tuned during surgery to improve symmetry
If the shell breaks Often silent; gel tends to stay in place The implant deflates within days and the body absorbs the saline
Screening Ultrasound or MRI at 5–6 years, then every 2–3 years No routine rupture screening needed
Profiles Low, low plus, moderate, full, extra full Low, moderate, high

Who usually prefers silicone

Most of our augmentation patients choose silicone for its natural feel, especially women with little breast tissue or thin skin, where saline is more likely to feel firm or show rippling. Silicone is also the usual choice when a smooth, natural slope is the goal.

Who may prefer saline

Saline can suit women aged 18 to 21, who are only approved for saline augmentation, women who want the smallest possible incision or fine-tuned volume for uneven breasts, and patients who prefer that a broken implant be obvious rather than silent. With enough natural tissue to cover the implant, saline can look very natural.

Natrelle® and Motiva®: two excellent choices

We offer both Natrelle® and Motiva® breast implants, because both are well-made, FDA-approved implants and different patients are better served by each. Natrelle® brings the longest U.S. track record, the widest range of profiles and sizes, and a saline option. Motiva® brings the newest implant technology approved in the U.S. and is the implant used in the tissue-preserving Preservé technique.

Shape with movement Round; softer gels move more naturally Ergonomix® changes shape with body position

Neither brand is right for everyone. Patients who want a very full, round upper breast, a high-projection profile, or a saline implant often lean toward Natrelle®. Patients who want an implant that changes shape with movement, or who are interested in Preservé, often lean toward Motiva®. Dr. Salama will show you both and recommend the one that fits your anatomy and goals.

Who is a good candidate for Natrelle® implants?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Are 22 or older for silicone implants, or 18 or older for saline implants
  • Want fuller breasts, or want to restore volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
  • Want to improve breast symmetry
  • Have older implants you’d like to replace, including older textured implants
  • Are in good general health, at a stable weight, and not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Don’t smoke, or can stop for several weeks before and after surgery
  • Understand that implants may need to be replaced over your lifetime

If your breasts have also lost their lift, Dr. Salama may recommend a breast lift with implants. Natrelle® implants are also approved for breast reconstruction.

Incisions, placement and the day of surgery

Dr. Salama most often places silicone implants through an incision in the breast crease (inframammary fold), which hides well and gives direct control of the implant pocket. He uses a Keller Funnel®, a no-touch insertion device that limits handling of the implant and its contact with the skin. Saline implants go in empty and are filled once in position, so the incision can be shorter.

  1. Consultation and sizing. Chest measurements, sizers and a hands-on look at each Natrelle® gel, in person or by virtual consultation.
  2. Pre-op visit. You review and sign the FDA Patient Decision Checklist and confirm your implant style and size.
  3. Surgery. Usually one to two hours, as an outpatient. The implant goes under the chest muscle (dual-plane) or above it, depending on your tissue.
  4. Home the same day. You leave in a surgical bra with your recovery plan and your Natrelle® implant ID card.

Placement under the muscle adds soft-tissue coverage, which helps thinner patients and is often recommended for saline. Placement above the muscle usually means an easier recovery. Dr. Salama will recommend the approach that suits your anatomy and implant choice.

Recovery after Natrelle® breast augmentation

When What to expect
First 2–3 days Soreness, tightness and swelling, managed with prescribed medication. Rest, short walks, and a surgical bra day and night.
Week 1 First follow-up visit. Most patients return to desk work and light daily activity.
Weeks 2–4 Swelling goes down. No lifting, pushing or upper-body workouts yet.
Weeks 4–6 Most patients are cleared to return gradually to exercise and to wear underwire bras.
Months 3–6 Implants settle into their final position and the breasts soften. Scars continue to fade over the first year.

Every recovery is different, and Dr. Salama will give you a personal plan. Traveling for surgery? See our guide for out-of-town patients.

Safety and monitoring

All breast implants sold in the U.S., including Natrelle®, carry an FDA boxed warning, and you review an FDA Patient Decision Checklist with your surgeon before surgery. This is what you should know:

  • Implants aren’t lifetime devices. The longer you have them, the more likely you’ll need another surgery to replace or remove them.
  • Rupture screening for silicone. Silicone implant rupture is often silent. The FDA-approved labeling recommends a first ultrasound or MRI five to six years after surgery, then every two to three years, even without symptoms.
  • BIA-ALCL. Breast implant–associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma is a rare cancer of the immune system that can develop around breast implants. It occurs more often with textured implants than smooth ones. Today’s Natrelle® implants are smooth.
  • Systemic symptoms. Some patients report symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain and brain fog, sometimes called breast implant illness. The FDA continues to study these reports. Tell Dr. Salama about any symptoms after surgery.
  • Mammograms and breastfeeding. Tell the imaging center you have implants, so they can use special views. Implants can affect breastfeeding for some women.

Today’s Natrelle® implants are smooth. Allergan withdrew its older textured implants in 2019; smooth Natrelle® implants, including the INSPIRA® SoftTouch implants Dr. Salama uses most, were not affected. If you have older textured implants, we can review your records and talk through implant exchange.

How much do Natrelle® implants cost in Miami?

Your investment depends on the implant you choose (silicone or saline, and which INSPIRA® gel), whether you’re combining augmentation with a lift or another procedure, whether it’s a first-time or revision surgery, and the anesthesia and facility involved. Because every plan is personal, Dr. Salama gives you a written, all-inclusive quote after your consultation, covering the implants, the surgical fee and anesthesia.

Many patients start with a virtual consultation, sending photos so Dr. Salama can recommend options before an in-person visit. For payment plans, see forms and financing.

Replacing older implants with Natrelle®

Many patients come to us to replace older implants: textured implants they’re concerned about, implants that have ruptured or hardened, or implants that are no longer the right size. Natrelle® implants are FDA-approved for revision augmentation, and the more cohesive INSPIRA® gels and five profiles give Dr. Salama extra options for correcting shape. Depending on your situation, he may also recommend removing the old capsule (scar tissue).

Natrelle® implants: frequently asked questions

What are Natrelle® breast implants?

Natrelle® is the breast implant brand of Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company. It includes smooth, round silicone gel implants, led by the INSPIRA® collection, and saline implants, all FDA-approved for breast augmentation, revision and reconstruction.

Are Natrelle® implants FDA approved?

Yes. The FDA approved Natrelle® saline implants in 2000 and Natrelle® silicone gel implants in 2006. INSPIRA® implants were approved in 2015 and INSPIRA® Cohesive in 2016. Silicone implants are approved for augmentation in women 22 and older, and saline in women 18 and older.

Are Natrelle® implants gummy bear implants?

Yes. All Natrelle INSPIRA® implants use cohesive (“gummy”) gel at three levels: Responsive (softest), SoftTouch and Cohesive (gummiest). The teardrop-shaped Natrelle® 410, often called the original gummy bear implant, was textured and is no longer sold in the U.S.

What’s the difference between INSPIRA® SoftTouch, Responsive and Cohesive?

The gel. Responsive is the softest and moves most naturally, SoftTouch is in the middle, and Cohesive holds its shape best for the fullest, roundest upper breast. All three are smooth, round and highly filled. See the comparison table.

Are Natrelle® implants textured?

Not anymore. Natrelle® implants sold in the U.S. today are smooth. Allergan’s textured BIOCELL® implants, including the Natrelle® 410, were recalled in 2019.

Were Natrelle® implants recalled?

Only the textured ones. In July 2019 Allergan recalled its textured BIOCELL® implants and tissue expanders because of a higher risk of BIA-ALCL. Smooth Natrelle® implants were not recalled and remain available. If you have textured implants and no symptoms, the FDA does not recommend removal, but you can talk with Dr. Salama about your options.

How do I know if I have recalled implants?

Check your implant ID card for the style code and the word BIOCELL®. Textured Natrelle® codes start with T. If you don’t have your card, the surgeon or hospital that placed your implants has the record, and our team can help you find it.

Saline or silicone: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Silicone feels more like natural tissue and is less likely to ripple; saline allows a smaller incision, adjustable volume and an obvious deflation if it breaks, and it is approved from age 18. See saline vs. silicone.

How long do Natrelle® implants last?

No breast implant is a lifetime device, and there’s no set expiration date. Many patients keep their implants for many years. Natrelle® covers rupture with lifetime implant replacement, and silicone implants should be checked with ultrasound or MRI starting five to six years after surgery.

How do I read a Natrelle® size chart or style code?

The first letter is the surface (S for smooth), the second is the gel (R Responsive, S SoftTouch, C Cohesive), the next letters are the profile (L, LP, M, F or X) and the number is the volume in cc. SSF-520 is a smooth SoftTouch full-profile 520 cc implant. Try the decoder.

Natrelle® or Motiva®: which should I choose?

Both are excellent, FDA-approved implants, and we offer both. Natrelle® offers five profiles, three gels and a saline option; Motiva® offers an implant that changes shape with movement and the Preservé technique. Dr. Salama recommends the one that fits your body. See Natrelle® and Motiva®.

What does the Natrelle® warranty cover?

ConfidencePlus® is included automatically. For silicone, it covers rupture with lifetime replacement and up to $3,500 for 10 years, capsular contracture with replacement for 10 years, and BIA-ALCL with lifetime replacement and up to $7,500. See the warranty table.

How much do Natrelle® implants cost in Miami?

It depends on the implant, whether other procedures are combined, and whether it’s a first-time or revision surgery. You’ll receive a written, all-inclusive quote after your consultation, which you can start virtually.

Can I replace my old textured or Natrelle® 410 implants?

Yes. Natrelle® smooth implants are FDA-approved for revision augmentation. Dr. Salama will review your current implants and recommend whether to exchange them, and whether to remove the surrounding capsule.

Which Natrelle® implant does Dr. Salama use most?

INSPIRA® SoftTouch, most often in the moderate (SSM) or full (SSF) profile. He chooses the gel, profile and size for each patient after measuring the chest and trying sizers, so your implant may differ.

Is Dr. Salama a listed Natrelle® surgeon?

Yes. Dr. Salama is listed on the Find a Surgeon locator at natrelle.com, Allergan’s directory of surgeons who offer Natrelle® breast implants.

Do you offer consultations in Spanish?

Yes. Ofrecemos consultas en español, en persona o virtuales.
